HONEYMOON IN RIVIERA MAYA

If you're looking for that perfect (all-inclusive) beach spot that won't break the bank, check out the Valentin Imperial Maya in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.  This fantastic resort, located in the Rivera Maya, has everything you would ever want with a self-contained resort.  The beach looked like it was right out of a magazine, the drinks were delicious and the food was pretty good too!

The Valentin is a five-star resort and was everything (and even more) than we thought it would be.  We worked with a fabulous travel agent who helped plan every detail of the trip from airport transportation to our day excursion.

When making the decision of where we were going to stay, we ended up choosing the Valentin over another resort due to it's privacy and seclusion.  We wanted something that felt like we were on a secluded island.  The Valentin provided just that!

There are so many great things about this resort.  There are endless places to explore - eight restaurants, eleven bars (with unlimited drinks), two large pools and so much more.  And, don't forget to take advantage of the swim up bar!  The views are stunning and the stay was simple.
The Japanese restaurant for sushi was our favorite.

One of our favorite things about this place was the people who worked there.  They made you feel like royalty.  Take it from two southerners, they were some of the nicest people we've ever met.  They truly set a new standard for service.  They made every experience feel special.

A day excursion to a Mayan Ruin is a must when in Mexico.  We tried out Talum which sits right on the Gulf of Mexico.  The history behind this place was incredible.  The only thing about a day excursion while in Mexico is that it really does take out a whole day, minus dinner if you make a late reservation.  With that said, we definitely recommend taking advantage of the experience.

Dave surprised me with an upgrade for our honeymoon which included all kinds of special details during our stay.  From a bottle of champagne to fresh roses in our room what seemed like every time we walked in the door to couple spa treatments and once in a lifetime experiences like a private dinner on the beach.  He sets such high standards, yet still finds ways to out do himself when it isn't even possible.  Sometimes I don't know how I got so lucky, but I am so thankful that I did.  He thought that every single part of the upgrade was worth it.

Our honeymoon was perfect.  Like, couldn't have been any better.  We love traveling, experiencing and discovering together which makes life that much sweeter.  Looking back, it's hard to choose favorite parts because it was all wonderful.  If we had to choose, here's our list:

Dinner on the beach was a dream.

Surprises each time we entered our room.

Sharing spa dates together.

Experiencing history and culture.

Meeting new monkey friends.

Sending baby turtles off to the ocean.

Impromptu photo shoot.
It ruined Dave's pants and made for quite the embarrassing walk back to the room with water soaked white pants - you get the picture here - but life's about ruining pants for a one-of-a-kind experience... right?

We have traveled together a lot, but had never been to the ocean together.  So, when we were deciding on where to honeymoon... the answer was clear.  We knew we were going to the ocean, we just had which one to choose.

In our experience, all-inclusive on the honeymoon is definitely the way to go.  There is so much planning for every detail of the wedding, that it's just nice to get away without any worries.  When everything has been taken care of already it makes it easy to really relax, take in every opportunity and have genuine fun together the entire time.
We certainly did.
As mentioned earlier, the food here is good by not great.  If you're looking for high-quality dining, you might be disappointed staying here.

Ask for top shelf when it comes to alcohol.  They don't display it, but definitely have it... and all you have to do is ask.

Bring a bunch of ones to tip your servers and house keepers.  They work their butts off for not a whole lot of money and deserve (and are so thankful) every tip you can spare.  Plus, you'll get even better than awesome service.
